About Me

  • Qualifications University Professor, Author and Coach
  • Description When I was growing up, I had little self-confidence. I remember leaning against the wall as a 7th grader, waiting for a boy to ask me to dance. At the end of the dance when no one had asked me, I asked a girlfriend to dance the very last dance with me, feeling sorry for myself. Although I did well in school, I didn't have the skills to be assertive with others and confident in myself.

In college, I began to develop self-confidence by joining different groups, singing in the school choir, and acting in plays. This began my journey into greater understanding of myself and greater mastery over my thoughts, emotions and behavior.

After my two children were in school, I earned my Masters degree and started teaching as a college professor. That added to my self-confidence, and after 14 years of teaching, I knew my strengths. One of those strengths was to share how to be a stronger personality, and I transitioned into teaching assertiveness skills online.

I have been teaching assertiveness to students around the world for 17 years. Because I teach approximately 1,000 students per year, I have now taught over 17,000 people how to be more assertive, both in speech and with body language.

Teaching this online course lead me to be the co-author of the book "Self-Esteem for Dummies" in the "Dummies" series. This book is now in libraries throughout the world and has reached tens of thousands of people.

I created my online courses on self-confidence as a complement to the book. All of my online courses contain guided visualizations and songs. I was blessed with a lovely alto voice that I lower for the guided visualizations and that I use to sing my songs.

From the "Self-Esteem for Dummies" book, I took many of my quotes to create memes with nature photos.

I began coaching people about five years ago, some who took my assertiveness course and some who found me online. I have coached people who wanted to be more assertive in the workplace, people who wanted to be more self-confident and change their thought patterns in their everyday lives, and people who wanted to learn the skills to have better relationships in their lives. This has been very rewarding to my clients and also to me since I can see the great differences in my clients' lives over time.

Having high self-confidence is one of the basic skills in life. With it, you can gain the education, work and family you desire. With self-confidence, you can reach your goals and create the life you deserve.

Overall throughout my extensive career I have been a college professor teaching Sociology classes at Pima Community College, Tucson, Arizona, USA for 10 years and teaching Writing, Public Speaking, Critical Thinking and Teamwork classes at the University of Phoenix, Tucson, Arizona, USA for 4 years. I've been teaching online courses in assertiveness for 17 years and teamwork for 14 years. I've been a coach helping people with assertiveness and self-confidence for 6 years.
