True forgiveness is when you can say, "Thank you for that experience".
When you can reflect on a moment that hurt you and understand what it taught you without feeling the same pain, then you have forgiven and healed. When you look back on a moment and still feel bitterness, then you know that you haven't learned all that you need to.
