Experience
Hellen is a registered psychologist who brings both professional expertise and rich life experience to her practice. Her career in the physical and mental health sector began at just 16 years of age, working on the frontline as a desk administrator before progressing into senior administrative and management roles at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute. This early exposure to serious illness, loss, and the realities faced by individuals and families profoundly shaped her compassionate approach to care.
In 2009, Hellen returned to tertiary study to pursue her passion for psychology. Since then, her work and research have been deeply grounded in understanding loss, grief, and the enduring impact of trauma on individuals across the lifespan. Over the past seven years, she has worked closely with bereaved individuals in a range of settings, including aged care, grief following violence or crime, and suicide bereavement. Her experience also extends to supporting people from diverse communities, including Indigenous and LGBTIQA+ individuals.
Hellen is a highly experienced loss and grief support group facilitator and educator, and she has provided supervision to other practitioners working within the loss and grief space. She is deeply committed to creating safe, respectful environments where grief can be expressed, honoured, and gently integrated over time.
Therapeutic Approach
Hellen is known for her thoughtful, warm, and engaging therapeutic style. She meets clients with genuine curiosity and compassion, walking alongside them at their own pace. Drawing on a range of evidence-based approaches—including Play Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Schema Therapy—she tailors her work to each individual’s needs and lived experience.
She is currently completing Supervisor Training as an APS Board Approved Supervisor and undertaking advanced training in EMDR, a trauma-focused therapy, to further support clients impacted by complex and traumatic grief.
