Firstly just accept that you are unhappy, it is just a feeling and not who you are. With acceptance the “unhappy feeling” will pass. All pain is caused by resistance to what is. When we do not resist our authentic feelings there is no pain and we naturally return to our natural state of happiness and well-being.

Other techniques to be the master of your emotions rather than having them controlling you is to have supportive rituals at the beginning of the day. For example, every morning visualise what you want from the day and include three things that would make you smile. Make your own feel good moments throughout the day: dance around your bed room or sing at the top of your voice!

It helps to go beyond yourself and being absorbed in feelings where you do not feel so good by doing something kind for a stranger for example. Helping someone across the road for example or carrying someones shopping if they are struggling.

When you are feeling unhappy it can be helpful to go for a walk or do some exercise that gets your heart rate up. When you do this you increase your oxygen intake and you “feel good” hormones such as serotonin and you automatically feel happy.

Did you know that it is impossible to skip and be unhappy at the same time?

It is also impossible to be unhappy and grateful at the same time. Think of things that you are grateful for and feel how it transforms the way you feel.
